Phenix Motorsport has confirmed that Jason Bright will join Phenix as the Pro Driver for the upcoming Pro-Am Event at Phillip Island later this month.
Team Principal Malcolm Ramsay is thrilled to welcome Bright back into the fold. Malcolm explains…
“It was 1997 when we last had Jason on the team, during the heady open wheeler days of Birrana Racing and Formula Holden. As our gun driver Jason took multiple victories over 1996/97, culminating with the 1997 Australian Drivers Championship in our 91D Reynard ahead of rivals Jason Bargwanna and Scott Dixon. To have him back amongst our new Porsche Carrera Cup team is the icing on the cake for our return to Motorsport this year. ”
Bright had his first ever run in a Porsche when he took to the wheel of the new Type 991 GT3 Carrera Cup car on Wednesday during private testing at Phillip Island. Bright completed around 50 laps as part of the Phenix Motorsport test schedule, and was full of praise for the new package.
“The first thing I noticed was how great a package the new Carrera Cup Car is. For a control Formula they have a car that is a lot of fun to drive. I’m really looking forward to the Pro Am and working with the familiar faces at Phenix Motorsport from earlier in my career.”
Bright will step in alongside regular Elite Class driver Brenton Ramsay, who currently sits 7th in the Elite Category Championship after two solid opening rounds. Brenton is obviously excited…
“Jason is a class driver, no doubt about that! To have him jump in the car and provide such valuable feedback and tuning is just priceless. Already we are making good progress and improving the package following his first stint. I’m excited about the Pro Am concept and really looking forward to partnering with Jason and learning from him.”
The Pro Am event is held as Round 3 of the Carrera Cup Championship at Phillip Island over the 24th and 25th of May. Both races are one-hour endurance races, with Race 1 to be held on Saturday at 12:50pm and Race 2 on Sunday at 10:45am.
