FOUR Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia contenders will tackle the streets of Singapore this weekend, joining the final round of Porsche Carrera Cup Asia at the original F1 night race.ย
Dylan O’Keeffe and fellow GWR Australia / RAM Motorsport teammates Matt Belford and Dean Cook will link with Toro Racing, a local team and the same squad O’Keeffe raced with at the previous Asian event in Indonesia.
All three are being supported by Aussie-owned Automotive aftermarket and trade industry staple Lowbake, long time a supporter of O’Keeffe’s racing in particular.
The Aussie contingent will be cheered on by a large group of Aussie and Kiwi smash repair industry visitors on tour this weekend.
Meanwhile, current Porsche Michelin Junior leader Bayley Hall will join with Earl Bamber Motorsport to make his Singapore debut, driving the car Oscar Targett raced in Indonesia recently.
Though Hall has visited Singapore’s event before this weekend marks his racing debut on the demanding street circuit.
Hot weather, high humidity and regular afternoon Thunderstorms will all be wildcards for the contingent this weekend.
OโKeeffeโs Porsche Type 992 GT3 Cup car will be backed by National Make Good Solutions, with support from ID_Land, Lowbake, KASE Group, Sheargold Group and Tempur.
โI canโt wait to race on the Singapore street circuit, it will be unreal!โ OโKeeffe said.
โIโve grown up watching the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix on TV and Iโve attended it as a fan; itโs such a spectacular track, especially under lights.
โBeing a street circuit, the concrete walls are never too far away and there are consequences if you get things wrong, but the Marina Bay track has some decent passing spots as well.โ
OโKeeffe says the knowledge he gained in the Carrera Cup Indonesia event will serve him well in Singapore.
โIt was good working with the Toro Racing squad in Indonesia and learning how they operate; now I understand their systems and processes, Iโm sure we can hit the ground running from the first practice session.
โMy regular Carrera Cup Australia engineer, Rob Palermo is making the trip with me, so it will be good to have his input as well.โ
The weekend is timely for the Aussie contenders as they head towards a frantic end to the Australian championship, which still has three rounds and nine races remaining.
Crucially, all three come at high intensity circuits (Bathurst, Gold Coast and Adelaide) meaning the Singapore experience will ensure all four are sharp.
โThereโs no doubt that the more time you spend in a Carrera Cup car, the better you become โ look at people whoโve raced Porsches overseas, come to Australia and dominated,” O’Keeffe said.
โI feel the extra seat time in Carrera Cup Asia will definitely get me in the zone for the next Carrera Cup Australia round at Bathurst.โ
The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia field will see a sole practice session on Friday ahead of Qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, with the final race of the season the warm-up act for the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday evening, Australian time.
Australian fans will be able to watch the action through the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Facebook page or YouTube channel.
