Jaxon Evans and Stephen Grove will depart the 2018 Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia season as the Outright and TAG Heuer Pro-Am Champions, while Nick McBride and Adrian Flack completed the Gold Coast finale with round victory.
Evans finished his 2018 season in style with victory in the third and final race of the season. Following two race wins on Saturday, second place in race three secured McBride the round win and was flanked on the final podium of the season by second placed Earl Bamber and third placed Evans.
The strong finish to the season handed Evans an impressive 182-point victory in the Carrera Cup standings over out-going champion David Wall and Dylan O’Keeffe in third.
“It’s pretty special to grab a race win in the last race of the year after clinching the championship yesterday. I can’t really describe how I feel at the moment. I’m just stoked,” said Jaxon, who has attended the past Carrera Cup podiums in Gold Coast; in 2017 as the round winner and in 2016 to cheer on his good friend and now Porsche Young Professional Matt Campbell after Campbell’s 2016 title win.
“I remember being here a couple of years ago watching Matt up here accepting the championship trophy. It’s great to be here two years later and being in the same position with the 2018 championship trophy in hand.”
Adrian Flack completed an impressive season finale with a clean sweep of TAG Heuer Pro-Am victories, finishing on the podium beside second place Anthony Gilbertson and Tim Miles.
While failing to finish on the round podium, Stephen Grove finished the Gold Coast round unscathed and was thrilled to conclude another title-winning season.
“This is great. There was such strong competition in the TAG Heuer Pro-Am class this season so winning it this season is really special,” said Grove.
“Having Earl as part of the team has been incredible this weekend. We knew he was going to be fast and he did a great job, racing at the front and taking second for the round.”
The TAG Heuer Pro-Am title is Grove’s third in his time in the Carrera Cup series following his 2014 and 2017 successes.
