ROUND 7 โ MOUNT PANORAMA FAST FACTS
The seventh round of the 2016 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia to be held at Bathurst is the 97th held since the category debuted in 2003. Bathurst will host the 286th, 287th and 288th races in PCCA history. This is the 12th time the category has raced at Bathurst since its debut in 2003.
No PCCA season has ever been held without a round at Bathurst being part of it.
Five drivers โ Matt Campbell, Dean Fiore, Steve Richards, David Wall and Ash Walsh โ will be on double duty at Bathurst with duties in both the PCCA round and the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. No PCCA driver has ever won the Bathurst 1000 and the Bathurst Carrera Cup round on the same weekend.
Two drivers โ Danny Stutterd and Tony Longhurst โ are making their Porsche Carrera Cup Australia debut when the series visits Bathurst. They become the 184th and 185th drivers to compete in the series since it was introduced back in 2003.
Tony Longhurst is a two-time Bathurst 1000 winner. He won in 1988 with Tomas Mezera (who later become the inaugural Driving Standards Observer in PCCA in 2003!) and again in 2001 with Mark Skaife for HRT. Longhurst also won the Bathurst 12 Hour in a Mitsubishi Lancer in 2009.
Marc Cini will create history at Bathurst given heโs due to become the first driver in PCCA history to start 250 championship races. All going well heโll rack up his 250th race in Race 2 at Bathurst.
Championship leader Matt Campbell is aiming to tie Jim Richardsโ record of most consecutive poles in PCCA history. Richards scored six in a row in 2003 in the inaugural year of the series and Campbell will tie that mark if he gets pole at Bathurst.
Campbell took pole last year for the Bathurst round and now sits fourth on the all-time PCCA pole list behind Alex Davison, Jim Richards and Craig Baird.
Alex Davison is the only driver to have multiple Bathurst PCCA round wins. He won in 2004 and 2007; nine different drivers have won the last nine PCCA rounds at Mount Panorama.
McElrea Racing has won the last three Bathurst PCCA rounds in a row and four of the last five rounds there. It started with Michael Patrizi in 2011 and followed with further wins in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Shae Davies won the 2014 PCCA round at Bathurst after qualifying seventh on the grid. Itโs the lowest qualifying position for a Bathurst PCCA round winner.
Shane Smollen is the form driver in the TAG Heuer Carrera Challenge when it comes to Bathurst. Heโs taken four of the last 5 Challenge poles at the circuit and is tied for most Challenge race wins at the famous track with Rodney Jane โ 6.
One more pole will give Smollen a share of the record for most Challenge class poles in PCCA history โ heโd be in a three-way tie with Rodney Jane and James Koundouris.
Smollen also now sits equal second in the record books for most race wins in TAG Heuer Carrera
Challenge history. Heโs tied on 29 wins with Rodney Jane and James Koundouris; one more will move
him to a clear second though still a way off the record of 46 held by Max Twigg, who makes a return to
the series for the Bathurst round.
If this season is any guide to go by, Matt Campbell is due to win this round at Bathurst. He and Alex
Davison have alternated the last five round wins between them. Davison won Albert Park, Campbell
(sharing with Geoff Emery) won Rennsport in Sydney, Davison won in Darwin, Campbell at Sydney
Motorsport Park and Davison last time out at Sandown. They duo has won 13 of the last 14 races held.
Bathurst is the site of the second closest race-winning margin in PCCA history โ Alex Davison beat David
Reynolds in 2007 in Race 3 by just 0.0565s.
