One of Australia’s greatest motor racing talents, Nick Percat, will put his skills to the test against the country’s top sports car drivers this season.
After three years competing in the V8 Supercars Development Series, Percat has switched his focus to Australia’s premier one-make sports car championship, Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, joining Team BRM with continued backing from Coates Hire.
The move will place the 2011 Bathurst 1000 champion against some of Australia’s greatest sports car drivers including four-time Carrera Cup Australia champion Craig Baird, Steven Richards, Michael Patrizi and Warren Luff, with Percat looking forward to the challenge.
“I’m looking forward to the start of the season and finally getting the chance to race one of these Porsche GT3 Cup cars,” said Percat.
“Carrera Cup is definitely one of the most competitive racing championships in the country and I can’t wait to line up against the likes of Craig Baird and Warren Luff at the Clipsal 500.
“To be competitive in Carrera Cup you’ve got to be legitimately fast and consistent as there is such great parity between the cars. Therefore, if I can be competitive in a Porsche, then it will add another feather in my cap as a driver.”
Percat’s Carrera Cup campaign will have a distinct Adelaide flavour – his city of birth is also the base of his new Carrera Cup outfit, Team BRM.
“It’s great to have Coates Hire on board with our Carrera Cup campaign. I’m also happy to reunite with Team BRM this season; I drove with them in the 2007 Formula Ford season, gaining a few victories. As soon as I walk into the Team BRM workshop it feels like home; they are a great group of guys and it’s great to go into the Adelaide season opener with a local driver and team.”
Percat’s greatest racing triumph is his victory in the 2011 Bathurst 1000 alongside Garth Tander, a performance following his previous career highlight – a dominant title victory in the 2009 Australian Formula Ford Championship.
Percat will experience his first outing in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car today at a test day at Winton Motor Raceway.
