Michelin Junior Adam Garwood will transition from his family-run Garwood Motorsport to Carrera Cup powerhouse McElrea Racing.
Garwood moved from Touring Cars Masters for the start of the 2018 Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia season and has since secured two top-10 results from the opening three rounds.
“Having only confirmed our season just weeks before Adelaide, we were rushed into the first three rounds which were only weeks apart, so we decided to quickly shuffle together and self-run our Garwood Motorsport team due to the limited time we had to get ourselves together,” said Garwood.
“With our team being based in Tasmania, it limited what we could do in regard to working on the car in between rounds, having the opportunity for test days, fixing panel damage, washing the car etc.
“We did the first few rounds completely self-sufficient, with our small family-oriented team, however discovered further the negatives of doing so, which encouraged our decision to work with Andy at the conclusion of round three.”
The Tasmanian based racer will now move his entry to the Yatala based McElrea Racing, joining the team’s current Carrera Cup campaigners Tim Miles, Anthony Gilbertson and series leader and fellow Michelin Junior Jaxon Evans.
“We are really looking forward to running Adam for the rest of the 2018 championship,” said Team Principal Andy McElrea.
“We’ve looked at his data from previous rounds and he certainly isn’t scared of it! It will be our job to help him understand where we need a bit more, but equally as importantly, where he is already doing a good job. Obviously having competitive team mates also be a huge help too.”
Garwood’s first championship outing with his new team will be at round four of Carrera Cup at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway on June 15-17, 2018.
