Motorsport Australia confirms Championship status and increased super license points from 2022
Motorsport Australia has confirmed that Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia will be elevated to Championship status from the 2022 season and beyond.
Only a select number of categories are designated as โChampionshipsโ in Australia, with the one-make Porsche category joining only Supercars, GT and the S5000 as official Motorsport Australia circuit racing Championships.
The elevation in status recognises the categoryโs importance in the Australian motorsport landscape.
โThe Motorsport Australia Board has gladly approved this promotion and it is one that we are delighted to confirm, highlighting the strength of the Carrera Cup Australia in recent years,โ Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca said.
โThe category continues to provide exciting racing on the national stage. It also provides an important pathway in the motorsport pyramid, not just for those wishing to compete here in Australia, but also for those who wish to compete overseas and showcase their talents.
โCarrera Cup Australia has been such a strong pillar of motorsport in Australia in recent times and we look forward to the competitors and teams racing for a prestigious Championship title in 2022 and beyond.โ
Porsche Cars Australia Head of Motorsport, Troy Bundy, said the 2022 Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia promised to be one the most exciting in recent years.
โThis announcement is great news for both our teams and drivers as well as those Michelin Junior Development drivers progressing onto Supercars like Matthew Payne,โ Bundy said.
โReceiving Championship status also means our Mobil Pro drivers will receive the same recognition and Super license points as the likes of Super 2, S5000 and GT World Challenge Australia Championships.โ
The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship will finish its 2021 season on a high, competing at the Repco Bathurst 1000 and The Bend Motorsport Park in mid-December.
