PORSCHE Motorsport Australia extends its sympathies to the Giltrap family and the extended New Zealand Motoring and Motorsport community, following the sad passing of Sir Colin Giltrap this morning.
Dubbed the ‘Godfather of New Zealand Motorsport’, Sir Colin is the grandfather of current Porsche Carrera Cup Australia racer and Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Champion, Marco.
Beyond that, the support of the Giltrap Group has been felt by a vast majority of the New Zealand drivers competing in Porsche’s one-make series in Australia for several decades.
New Zealand drivers have won 166 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia races and 10 of the 19 championship titles won in the series’ history.
Current champion Callum Hedge was supported by the Giltrap Group on his way to the title last year, with Giltrap-supported drivers claiming both of Australia’s top one-make championships last year.
Porsche Motorsport Australia extends its sympathy and support to Sir Colin’s wife Lady Jennifer, their children and grandchildren, the extended Giltrap family and the broader New Zealand motorsport and motoring community in this sad time.
