West Australian motor racing ace Karl Reindler will contest the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia championship following a three-year stint in the top-flight V8 Supercars competition.
In a career that also includes an Australian Formula 3 Championship title win, British Formula 3, Grand-Am and A1 Grand Prix, Reindler will now line up for his debut in the Carrera Cup category at this weekend’s season opening Clipsal 500.
With a sensational list of drivers confirmed for the 2013 Porsche championship, Reindler expects racing in this yearโs Carrera Cup season to be no easy task.
โOver the last three years Iโve been focussed on V8 Supercars and I therefore havenโt had a chance to experience any other categories, so this year will be a great opportunity for me to do so. Carrera Cup is a great formula as seen globally; the race-proven Porsche GT3 Cup car united with the high performance Michelin tyres,โ said Reindler.
โThis yearโs Carrera Cup field is the most competitive that the Australian championship has ever seen. Typically, Carrera Cup Australia is as competitive as most other sports car categories around the world, and is probably the second most competitive category in Australia this year.
โIโm looking forward to this season and am proud to have my long-time backer Wilson Security along for the ride.โ
Reindler joins fellow former full-time V8 Supercars drivers Craig Baird, Warren Luff, Michael Patrizi and Steven Richards on the Carrera Cup grid at this weekendโs Clipsal 500.
