Multiple Championship winning team Wall Racing is set to return to the premier Porsche motorsport category in Australia, the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.
After many successful seasons running a Porsche, including two Australian GT Championship wins for current V8 Supercar driver David Wall, the team will run Barton Mawer from the Townsville round, with car owner Greg Taylor from next year.
The team took possession one of the latest model Porsches earlier this month, and completed their first test day on Wednesday. Wall Racing Team Manager, David Wall, said they were pleased with how the test went and that he was looking forward to working with Barton again.
“Bart has been a close friend of mine for many years, but not only that, he is also a great steerer,” said David.
“We have raced together at Wall Racing with some great results. We finished 3rd and were the highest placed non-factory car at the Sepang 12 Hour, and at the Bathurst 12 Hour we finished 4th outright in an older model car. For Bart, it is a return to the Championship in which he raced in 2008, finishing 10th in his rookie year including a podium finish.”
Wall Racing General Manager, David Fyfe said that with the experience of both Bart and David Wall to call on, Greg will spend this year learning as much as he from them, and getting as much track time as possible before making the step up to Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.
For the team, returning to Porsche Carrera Cup with secured solid financial backing is an exciting step.
“It always was the ambition of Dad and mine to grow the business, so it is good to see it come to fruition. We see this as the first step in the growth of our team,” said David Wall.
Wall Racing is a small family owned business that provides high quality race car services and track side support. The quality of the service they provide is such that the team has many Championship victories to their name.
2009 was a special year for Wall Racing with David and his father Des winning their respective National Championships, the Australian GT Championship for David and the Australian Sports Sedan Championship – the first and only time to date a father and son were National Champions in the same year.
Returning to Carrera Cup will add to an already busy year for the team which includes competing in the GT3 Cup Challenge with Richard Gartner, and may run another car in the series, in addition to running selected Australian GT Championship rounds.
