V8 Supercar driver David Wall will make a return to Porsche Carrera Cup Australia in 2016.
The Carrera Cup race winner competed in 26 rounds of Porsche one-make championship across the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons, taking the Rookie of the Year crown in his maiden attempt.
After four seasons racing full-time in V8 Supercars, Wall is now looking forward to his new role in the sports car series.
“It is no secret that I have a passion for racing sports cars, so for me the prospect of returning to Carrera Cup is an exciting one,” said Wall.
“I have already had an opportunity to test drive a current Porsche 991 GT3 Cup car. It was amazing to drive as you would expect. The whole Carrera Cup package, including Michelin tyres, is great from a driver’s point of view. It really feels like coming home.
“The category is incredibly strong at the moment – easily one of the strongest one-make categories in the world – so I know it is not going to be an easy task. I am really looking forward to the challenge it offers.”
David will also reunite with team Wall Racing that helped him win two Australian GT Championships in a Porsche, which he started with his father, Des Wall.
“The fact I will be returning to racing a Porsche with Wall Racing makes the move even sweeter, as does the fact that I will be able to run number 38 again. This is the number that both my father and I have traditionally run, including when we won our championships,” said Wall.
Wall’s first official outing in the Wall Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will be at Porsche Carrera Cup Australia’s pre-season test day at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 10, 2016.
